Will Smith's love of all things Bob Marley shines through his work. A line from I Am Legend exemplifies this, as while he's introducing Anna to Bob Marley's extensive discography, he states, "He had this idea. In addition, the jellyfish are introduced using Marley's "Three Little Birds" tune.īased on these three references, it's safe to say that Will Smith greatly appreciates Marley's work. What makes this little Easter egg even better is that the jellyfish Ernie is voiced by Ziggy Marley, Bob Marley's son. When the fish Oscar encounters the jellyfish Ernie and Bernie while tied up with seaweed, he tries to sing Bob Marley's song "Three Little Birds." In turn, Ernie zaps him with one of his tentacles and declares, "That's not how you sing that song, man!". Other Bob Marley Easter eggs can be found in one of Will Smith's best movies: Shark Tale. However, seeing the same joke taken from a light-hearted series like Fresh Prince and injecting it into the post-apocalyptic narrative of I Am Legend is arguably strange. Will Smith is apparently a big Bob Marley fan. At this point, Smith puts on the same high-pitched voice and sings "I Shot the Sheriff" to jog her memory, but to no avail. He tells Anna that they named her after Bob Marley, but Anna only knows his son, Damian. While Anna is looking around Robert's house, she sees a picture of his daughter, and he reveals that her name was Marley. The scene plays out a little differently in I Am Legend. As Geoffrey tries to get the house ready, Will busts into the kitchen wearing a Rastafarian getup and singing "I Shot the Sheriff" while dancing around. In Fresh Prince season 1, episode 20, "Nice Lady," the Banks house is in a state of panic as they anticipate the arrival of Geoffrey's old boss Lord Fowler. The joke came from Fresh Prince first, as the episode aired in 1991, and I Am Legend didn't come out until 2007. In both Fresh Prince and I Am Legend, Will Smith sings Bob Marley's famous hit "I Shot the Sheriff" in a high-pitched voice.
