Popper 4/0 : 2 catches ( lots of miss hits ) I did some more testing during another peak time: ( Almost exactly the same as EzFishLure's setup, just a different reel ) The problem is they don't bite on lures. The problem is not the gear, I have strong gear. If going for pike you dont need to cast far so this is an ok setup :D especialy combined with a kyak :D Wish you luck.Originally posted by darrren:i use cosmocast and a cyclone55 is to strong for any of the rods atm i use it with 0.6 floro and can use drag 5 safly hope this helps ![]() We refer to it as the wreck of the Edmund Fittzgerald, and you can and will get snagged on it from time to time. Maybe a sunken ship or Davey Jones Locker lol. and myself have come to the conlusion, that there is a deep channel, which is marked by the aforementioned bouys, and the Tiger Trout bouy at where I refer to has the Sandy Cape Horn, that runs right through the harbour. I call this area the "Triangle" (referenced to the Bermuda Triangle lol.) for more than one reason. But once you get out there, you can really do not wrong, the Walleye are all around you.īut take note. I like to position myself as close as I can get to center of said triangle, and fish all around in a 360 degree radius. I have noticed that a lot of times during the process of the lure decending back toward the bottom will you get a strike.Īs for the positioning, the "Triangle" as referd to by V.V., is formed by the Fairytale Dock, the bouy to the left and the bouy toward the right. If that happens, just stop your retreive and let it settle back on the bottom and begin again. If you happen to get a little to fast with your retreive, the bait tends to start a slow ascend toward the surface. Using a 2 speed stop and go works best for me. The heavier jig head allows you cast farther, gets you bait to bottom quicker, and helps to keep it on the bottom. stated, plastics imo are the way to go, (although my biggest Walleye, at 18.5lbs was caught on a crankbait in Pike Alley lol), and a 6" purple worm with a 1-1/2oz. And there will also be quite a few Smallmouth Bass in the mix, especially at night.Īs for the Walleyes, as V.V. A bit smaller than their Alaska cousins, you can have your hands full with a 12 to 14 pounder with the 12lb set up, and IMO, a considerably greater fight than you would with a Walleye of the same weight. But if your using the correct rod, reel and line combos, it can be a lot of fun, and gain more xp. But as I've stated before, if your're fishing the Fairly Tale Dock "Triangle", your inevitabley going to hookup with an Atlantic Salmon. ![]() I myself prefer a 15lb class set up, and If I'm really felling ambitious, I'll go with a 12lb set up. ![]() Good luck and do let us know and/or hit us up if you're strugglingĪgree, agree and agree^^^. Good luck and do let us know and/or hit us up if you're struggling. You definitely want to stock up on jigheads and plastics, I can't remember what's available at your level but if you have the option to buy plastic worms it's definitely worth it as they are most suited to bottom dragging or L&D. You need a kayak to get the best of it but it isn't an absolute essential as they're reachable from the shore. You can pick them up practically anywhere on the lake, including Unis, but the prime area is from the Fairytale dock toward the bouy in line with the channel and the bouy in line with the end of the Sandy Cape shoreline, it forms a triangle. I've had several Unis, but I believe Mitch has spent more time fishing for them than me so he can hopefully contribute more. They will take cranks, spoons and spinners, but the soft plastics outfish them by several multitudes in my experience. Plastic worms work wonders, either lift and drop or stop and go along the bottom. That is down to your personal preference, heavier gear = less XP. A 15lb class setup will do you, or a 20lb if you want to play it safe ( the Walleyes top 20lb ).
